Route 66 in Oklahoma: Mile 7

Coney I-Lander is a popular local restaurant chain. Coney Islands — also known as chili dogs — are an Oklahoma staple, particularly in the Tulsa area, which is home to such favorites as Jim’s Coney Island/Never on Sunday; Ike’s Chili House; Carl’s Coney Island; and Ron’s Chili and Hamburgers, among others.

A proper Coney is served with chili, cheese, and optional chopped onion, with a salt shaker of cayenne pepper and an assortment of hot sauces available to spice it up.

If you’re on a budget, Coney places are a good bet, as you can usually stuff yourself for under $5, including a drink.
