Road Tip 5

This week’s tip: On the road, breakfast really is the most important meal of the day … or, at the very least, the cheapest and most filling.

Most Route 66 diners serve great breakfasts. No matter how good or bad the rest of the offerings, you can generally count on a restaurant to get bacon and eggs and hash browns right. And most Route 66 diners will serve you a big plate of biscuits and gravy or a couple of eggs with toast and coffee for less than four bucks.

If you’re on a tight budget, fuel up big at breakfast, when the food is cheap and filling, then power on through until dinner. I use this trick a lot when I’m traveling and need to keep the costs down.
